Caring Education with Alison Petten RN offers nurses and other health care providers excellent, useful, comprehensive, relevant, practical courses and workshops. Her comprehensive, well-thought-out curriculum and relaxed teaching methods help learners to develop and maintain skills and competencies to compassionately and collaboratively care for clients, residents and patients in all health care settings.

Alison really cares about caregiving and caregivers. She provides excellent learning opportunities that are effective and enjoyable. Many assessment skills are offered in separate one-day workshops in order to make it convenient for nurses’ schedules and busy lives.

More About Alison

Alison Petten RN BScN has been in the nursing profession for more than 35 years.  A proud graduate of The General Hospital School of Nursing (1983) in St. John’s Newfoundland, Alison worked at the Health Sciences Centre as a staff nurse until relocating to Halifax to attend Dalhousie University’s Post-RN program.  She remained in Halifax and spent the next 12 years as a staff nurse in a variety of departments at the Victoria General Hospital and Camp Hill Medical Centre.  Over the following 8 years, Alison filled the roles of Team Leader, Move Coordinator, Nurse Educator and Nurse Manager in the areas of family medicine, general medicine and geriatrics.
In her role as Nurse Educator, Alison found her calling. In 2002 she stepped into the world of self-employment, finding her niche as an Educator and Health Consultant, specializing in workplace education for nurses, other health care professionals and caregivers. Alison has designed and delivered interactive programs that develop both the technical and non-technical skills of caregivers.  She enjoys working with teams in long-term care, acute care and home care to help them develop effective communication and teamwork to improve the care and lives of their clients. Her vast knowledge, upbeat personality and natural compassion create a truly unique experience that makes learning fun. To help make learning accessible to others, Alison travels to bring the learning opportunities to them.

Alison is also sought after for her holistic approach to wellness, recognizing the strong link between health and environment.  An advocate of lifelong learning, Alison believes that with education, awareness, common sense and a little support, we can all make better choices for ourselves and others. 
Alison lives in Halifax with her musician/educator husband, Dave Staples, and visits Newfoundland and Labrador on a regular basis.
